"It has been such a thrill to see so many come along to the festivals and enjoy playing football..."

This year has seen the Association significantly expand its Primary 5s provision with the outstanding support of Primary Schools throughout the local authority area.

Some 200 pupils from across RCT has participated in our festivals thus far. For the first time, we have also extended our festival provision to Year 3/4 pupils to support a greater number of our fantastic and enthusiastic young footballers.

The Association is hugely grateful and indebted to Ms Rachael Foster, of YGG Evan James, who has led our P5s provision this year with huge energy and commitment. As part of the overall annual festival programme, the Association is asked to nominate two Primary Schools to attend the National Festival in Newtown, Mid Wales, to represent RCTSFA and play against representatives from Schools Association from across Wales . To select our nominees is always a tremendously difficult decision as all of our entrants are worthy of the recognition.

In the event, we nominated YGG Tonyrefail and YGG Evan James to travel to Newtown, and they had a fantastic time and were brilliant ambassadors for RCT.

We would like to thank all the Schools who have supported the P5s festivals this year:

YGG Evan James, Llanilltud Fadre, Penygawsi, YGG Abercynon, Gwaunmeisgyn, Cwmaman, Trealaw, Maes Y Bryn, Abernant, Tonyrefail CS, Brynnau, YGG Tonyrefail, Llwyncrwn, Treorchy, Pontylcun, Tonysguboriau and YGG Bronllwyn.

Reflecting on the success of the P5s delivery, Ms Foster welcomed the growth of the festival programme, "It has been such a thrill to see so many young boys and girls co

me along to the festivals and enjoy the opportunity to play football and have fun with their friends. As we emerge from the pandemic, it was more important than ever to provide a platform for pupils to become active again and to also participate in inter schools activities and experiences."

In order to build on the momentum of our Year 3/4 festivals, the Association is seeking to establish a new U8/9 Mixed Development Squad for boys and girls in the 22/23 season. Parents/Guardians can nominate pupils via the following link:
